Omega General Help / Re: Cam cover Gaskets

took car to vauxhall today and they said they have seen this many times before when customers use after market gaskets. He agreed that if the covers were warped then leak would have happened immediately not 2 weeks later.
Asked Vaux World for a refund on gaskets but they are keeping radio silence.

My covers sat perfectly flat on my kitchen table.

Have asked VauxWorld for a full refund of gaskets but that will not help me when spending hours doing the job all over again :'(

Lesson learned

But 2 weeks is wild premature.  So warping of the covers does not exist?

Yes torqued to 8nm.  When off i put them on a level surface and they looked ok to me.  Surely if they were warped they would have leaked from day one and not 2 weeks later?

Hi Chaps,  Hate to admit defeat here but the Elring cam seals i fitted just over 2 weeks ago are leaking already.
Spoke to Vaux World who say they are top notch and failure must be either due to cam cover warp or blocked breathers.  I advised him the breathers were cleaned out when gaskets were fitted and surely if the cam covers were warped they would have leaked immediatly and not 2 weeks later.
Any comments greatly appreciated.

MF, No cutting of my gaskets as my car's gasket is all one piece.  New engine was fitted by Vauxhall in 2004.  I believe the newer engines are one piece.
If yours lasted 20,000 miles and i only do 3-5k per year i will have at least 4 yrs driving. lol ;D

Hi Chaps,  Following being advised by a few members that the Elring gaskets i fitted would not last and were not as good as genuine Vauxhall ones at £32 per side i decided to contact Elring.  Carmen at Elring has just sent me an email advising that their Gaskets for the V6 omega are sourced by them from a company called Kaco who are the OE supplier to Vauxhall/Opel.  Carmen further advises that if i had therefore bought from GM they would have been exactly the same gaskets.

Well Gates manufacture the auxillery belts for vauxhall. The only difference is for vauxhall they stamp GM on them.
The Elring gaskets i bought are made in Russelsheim where my car was made.  They looked identical to the ones i took out.
Vauxhall make very little parts themselves and therefore source parts elsewhere and have GM stamped on them.  If Elring dont make them then who does?

Henri, I just done my cam gaskets and i bought the genuine Elring ones Vaux world do which are just over £12 per side. Elring Manufacture for Vauxhall.  If you ask them they will include the 16 orings at a cost of £2.88.  Vauxhall charge £32 per side for the cam gaskets.

Thanks chaps.  I take it if this is leaking air it will be the cause of not just the hissing but the slight rough idle?

on the plenum you have the breather part  where the four breather pipes attatch. I have noticed a hissing noise comming from under the black part marked eco tech.  Whats under there and is there any serviceable parts ie orings etc.

Ah right.  Is there any way of testing the pcv without unplugging it?
