Omega Gallery / What was once my Omega
« on: 23 January 2011, 09:08:20 »
Purchased this one in 2008 on Ebay and went to get it.  Always wanted an Omega since they were first launched and needed a load lugger so it fit the bill.  Plus I love big engines ;D.

Though was a little shocked at the price of exhaust parts.

Ironically, just 10 days before the car caught fire via the Power sounder, I'd shelled out a large sum for a set of Uniroyal Rainsport 2 tyres in the 225 size.  Amazing tyres.  The Omega was awful in the rain on the P6000's that came with the car - frankly the scariest car I've ever driven in the rain, and thats coming from someone who has an old Rover SD1 3500 V8  (rear wheel drive).  After the Uniroyals were put on it was an amazing car to drive in wet even the recent monsoon conditions we had down here.  Got to enjoy those tyres on that car for just 10 days before it went up in flames  :'(.

General Discussion Area / GREAT FORUM - THANKS!

Just wanted to compliment your forum.  It is a brilliant site, well organised and very informative :) :) :).

I belong to a few Owners forums, namely Rover SD1.co.uk forum, MG-Rover.org forum and Rover800.info forum, but they're not a patch on this place ;D.

Pretty much everything I need to know about my newly acquired MV6 I have found on here (Powersounder, Xenon adjustment + tips, climate control console replacement, model specs), especially useful considering I haven't seen a Haynes manual (usually a must-have with every car I have had) for the facelift Omega.

Its a shame really, as if I'd been on this forum sooner, my series 1 Elite would still be with me  :'( (had no idea about PowersounderOfDeath - nor do people I've spoken to in car trade).

Top marks people!

Mv6 looked o k rather have an 8 owner car than a car owned by the dutch guy mr hertz rentacar !!!!! :y

 :y Cheers Russ

According to the HPi report, its only in the last 2 years that its been passed around alot.  Previous Keeper was a garage, reckon a trade-in.  Lots of plate changes for Private reg's which gives me an indication of change of owners.

Had four keepers in the last 2 years, one a garage.  Not entirely unexpected as the recession has been in place for those two years - who wants a big, 'relatively' thirsty beast in economic hardship.

Sorry, I'm sad - I like to analyse things  :-[

The 8 previous owners doesn't worry me really, as in the past I've picked up cars for people and had to sign the V5 document for the seller (so another owner added) then when the new V5 comes through transfer it to the person I fetched the car for.  The burnt up Omega had a change of owner twice in two weeks  :)

Yes, won it, travel to pick it up on saturday.  But will walk away if the car doesn't match what he has said about it.

Main criteria for me was cambelt/tensioners/water pump done, two keys, decent tyres all round, serviced, etc.  Done want extra expense on top of it as £1250 all I have to play with at this time.  He's provided me with photos of the receipts for cambelt.

As residents of Britain we're always getting shafted.  Make no mistake, I'm not an american lover nor hater, but my cousin lives out there and its the driver thats insured NOT the car.  Makes sense as you can only drive ONE car at a time  :).

I'm absolutely lost for words that the Omega has a suicide device built into it.   :o

11
Thought it must be the Power Sounder as damage is identical to Mantagte's poor car, and mostly restricted to the drivers side.

12
Can I pick your brains please chaps.  Do these power sounders (which I had never heard of until 45 mins ago) exist on the facelifted Omegas as well as the originals?  I only ask as I want another one, but the Mk1's seem to be thinning out.

JohnnyCool - Thats alright mate.  Up until the point I realised that it was on fire inside the cabin as well as the bonnet, I too was thinking a bit of T-Cut would sort it  :D.

And a few videos of the fire in progress (FAR TOO CLOSE to the house) and it being taken away the next day.
