Dragging a load of cans .

When driving i can hear a rattle coming from the rear brake area ...sounds like im dragging a load of rattle cans along the road  ::) any ideas what it might be . And when i brake from stopping slowly i can hear the rear brakes stick and ease off  :-\

Sounds like you have a spring snapped in your back brakes, need to strip them down & replace. Time for a good service then.

Yes thats my next job , ive done the front end . It does sound like something is rotating in the drum .

Yes, when the spring snaps, (or turns to dust) the shoe levers itself away from the backplate, and rubs on the inside of the drum, it makes a terrible noise.

Yes, when the spring snaps, (or turns to dust) the shoe levers itself away from the backplate, and rubs on the inside of the drum, it makes a terrible noise.
And you run the risk of them seizing so make it a priority ;)

Ok that sounds like the problem then , i will inspect tomorrow . Are the springs vauxhall only parts or can i get them in an aftermarket brake shoe pack ?

as mentioned previously probably a broken spring ;)

Fairly sure you get them in an after market fitting kit :-\ :-\ You may be able to bend yours to a usable shape if desperate

Cheers , ill get the replacements first as ill not know if ill be able to put it all back together without them and what condition the shoes will be in if the spring has been rolling around inside causing damage  :o
