i have just bought a 2.5 cdx estate auto,which seems to be doing only 15 mpg.The exhaust has more holes in it than a sieve,which i know wont help.also i have put an induction kit on.I have a 2.5 elite manual which was nowhere near as thirsty.I know the auto would drink a little more but its costing me nearly ten quid to do 12 miles.which is starting to hurt the old wallet.Could anyone throw any ideas my way please.cheers

I would start by replacing exhaust,binning the induction kit,a good service including cleaning the breathers.Then see how it is,and if there are any problems which need addressing.Also do the paperclip test to see if there are any fault codes.

Something wrong with your sums.  £10 for 12 miles would be about 7.5mpg not 15.

To be that thirsty, and not have any obvious running problems, I would guess that you must have an actual fuel leak somewhere.

Lose the induction kit, and fix the known problems with the exhaust. Then give it a good, proper service.

Then see what the economy is like.

not looking froward to giving her a service lol but will take on board all the advise and let you all know and abiton i know my maths is rubbish lol but its costing around 7-8 quid a day to go to work and back which is around 12 miles all in.i clocked it on trip comp last few days and the mpg settled around 15.6 mpg which aint good.

Short journeys & a knackered thermostat could pull the consumption down to that sort of mpg without there being anything seriously wrong with the motor.

Temperature gauge should be pointing to middle of the scale after 3 or 4 miles after a cold start. If it isn't then prepare yourself to fit a new thermostat & do a coolant flush.

exhaust is the first priority, repair it and check for your consumption again..
 
and short journeys wont help at all.. even with a healthy thermostat..
 
ps: also I would be suspicious about coolant temp sensor..

Hi! Every day i travel 16 km (almost 10miles). with the help of a calculator i converted to mpg, is .... 18.1 miles / gallon(UK) (15.6l/100km). On long drive i had 7.9l/100km (35.8miles / gallon(UK)). So i think nothing is wrong.
my car 2.5 V6. Them are little thirsty on short trip. My average speed is between 29-35km/h.
And this consumption i have after i don't push so hard the acceleration, any way on road is ice, i will se in spring.

My 2.5 petrol's the same only drive 3 miles to work and it eats fuel

I would do everything thats suggested above and change the oil, probably twice in the same month, and after all that diss the ECU for 24 hours and hope for a partial reset.
