3.2 MV6 - Autobox Update
« on: 10 March 2012, 20:40:56 »

This morning I took the Auto-box off my dead MV6. I started at 9am,  and had it in the boot of the tractor by 10:30. It would have been less, but the OS cat downpipe bolts gave me a little grief - nothing a soaking in plusgas and some help from a little, er, breaker bar couldn't sort!

I then mooched over to Mr Sassanach's place for the post mortem! Dis-assembly showed that while there was no signs of thrust washer in the sump - it had still split, and come adrift. The pump/bellhousing faces were screwed. The clutches all showed some pretty serious signs of slippage - EG burning.

The icing on the cake though was when he took the Sprag clutch assembly apart - it had basically disintegrated internally, and split into many peices.

So these issues will explain the mis-meshing, and loss of drive! The good news is, this was contained within the casing, meaning it could not have got anywhere near the TC.. so that lives on :y

I am also gobsmacked, because Mr Sassanach has donated me a good AR35!!  :y :y   (Tango please don't worry, I'll still buy yours for the Tractor, so I can chip it!!)

It was the infamous RonnieMcBurger Box, which was not fitted with the TC aligned correctly. Mr S has popped a nice new bellhousing in there, and the box is fine.

So next step is to finish fitting the new box and fill with nice fresh ATF - tomorrow morning :)

Sadly, my facilities for autobox swaps are limited - EG ratchet strapping it to a 3 tonne jack and encouraging it up there ;D

I had the exact same issue with an LPG project, that may have come from the same person  ::)

LOL! i prefer two trolley jacks, one at the front to piss about getting the bolt holes and the second to get the angle right ;)

my first attempt at an autobox went quite well
did it complete from start to finish in a day :P

My intention is to buy a transmission floor jack, meaning I can do them on my own with my eyes shut. Whilst it can be done on a trolley jack, it's not the safest thing in the world, when working alone...
