AR 25 Issues
« on: 17 March 2012, 08:34:47 »

Had the atf and filter screen replaced few months ago ..( I supplied the parts Titan 4000/filter/gaskets) and gears seemed to be nice and smooth again.

Last few weeks have had the box hanging onto 2nd when going up the gears and seems to take longer to change up than  I used to remember. My main concern is sometimes when going down the gears it hangs onto 3rd and then gives a firm jolt when dropping down to 2nd.I have had the "automatic gearbox warning" come up just the once when it went into limp mode but a restart got it back to normal.

Thinking the oil might be down a bit I checked the other day and probably managed to get in around 500ml before it started running out,but what did come out was a nasty brown, would have expected it to be nearer new as only some 3 months old or 7k..does it discolour that quickly ?

Anyway as atf is at correct level I am considering getting it checked by ATF Specialist to see if any fault codes etc are evident.I have read that the solenoids can play up and as this seems to be an issue arond 2nd and 3rd is it possible to just replace this solenoid as sure that would be the cheapest first step although would need another oil change at around £70 plus gaskets.

So probably the course of action to take would be :

1 ).Drop sumps again and give a good clean , check for evidence of any bust up thrust washer..if found probably worth getting another box
if not then go on to 2

2 ) .Locate somebody who can supply the 3 solenoids from an AR25 ready to replace existing hopefully duff ones.Fit them and then fill up with new ATF and fingers crossed. If all ok then job done...if fault still there make decision on gearbox replacement.Only wasted cost then would be ATF and couple of solenoids.

Assume diagnosis from AT Specialists would be able to identify if these  solenoids are at fault ?

Does seem to be Rob  :-\

Wasn,t sure if all solenoids should be done at the same time or just the possible problem one .Are these all the same from AR25/35 then,as might get an idea of what costs are likely to be comimg my way so if I can get it diagnosed on Monday by an  AT Company  and it does point to 2-3 solenoid that is a job I can probably tackle with another aft change.

When you replace the gearbox oil the torque converter is still full of the old oil which mixes with the new
