Recession never really hit us untill this year. I put it down to have existing contracts in place and the companies that use our "service" had allready budgeted for the expense. That said we have had so few customers this year that it is hurting, I think we have had 6 customers this year and that is only one day testing. We usually do 3 day or 5 day testing.
Thankfully we have reasnble bank balance, but they will not keep us open forever with so little work. Such a shame, our facility opened in the 1920s in Farnborough. Moved to Southampton in 1980. is one of only about 3 facilties in the country open to use by paying customers. All the rest are owned by companies for there own use.

We have also trained some of the brightest Engineers in the country, sorry can't name names.

Oddly I've flat out this year, first day off yesterday since before Christmas, & that includes Christmas day!

So much so, that I'm getting VAT reg next month. Being self-employed, sole trader has it's advantages, as I can react quicker to jobs & situations, and find myself doing things I never thought I would.

Paul Weller, De La Soul & Orbital this week at Maida Vale studios, lighting for radio...... ::)

Still not the way it was when Maggie was in power, but it's looking good from my point of view

Been a big struggle since the recession, but things are very slowly improving.

This country is facing ever increasing cheap competition from abroad with software development as code can be developed and uploaded to a server from anywhere in the world. More and more companies are realizing they can save development costs by doing this.

There are several major global project / developer matching websites, where going rates are $10-20 per hour, with money being safely held in escrow accounts, until the customer accepts the milestone or the completed software. These sites are dominated by Indian, South American and East European developers as they can afford to work for these hourly rates.

In 20 years time I think UK software development will be as common as UK shipyards building merchant vessels. There will still be small niche suppliers like their are for boats, but that's all.

This is also reflected that the UK's global percentage of computer games developed here, has been and is continuing to decline. The main countries benefiting from this are France and Canada due to large tax breaks and new studios (many owned or part owned by the big publishers) in Eastern Europe, South America and some Asian countries.

Certainly noticed it worsen in Spain.

Food inflation has been like Britain. We get some of our income from farming and farm gate prices are 34% less now than five years ago. Bit like Milk is kept low by the supermarkets in the UK. Of course fertiliser, bug spray and diesel have all rocketed.
Unemployment is 23% instead of 5%.
Exchange rate is worse by 18%

I can't wait to see what swinging measures our (Conservative) government impose on us on 30th March in order to meet Merkosy's deficit targets. Tax on people whose name begins with V? Foreigners tax? Tax on people who drive Omegas (double if badged Vauxhall..............) ;D ;D :'( :'(

Only sex left to tax, so £10 a poke, Government assuming all adults aged 18 to 80 get it at least an average 3 times a week. £30 x 52 x 40m = £62bn, which should fund Iran War, MP's pay and pension rise and extra allowances, reduce the budget deficit. All those that claim a rebate for less sexual activity, will have their picture, name and address displayed on a public website and local notice boards.  :o :o :o ;D ;D ;D

Iran war..  they would need to tax for more imo.. and global economical consequences will be far more worse than the previous crisis.. and I expect the war soon.. I hope I'm wrong :-\

besides we are anyway in a continous crisis as global food resources are limited and we increasing in population like rabbits..food soon will be very very expensive..
