How to remove a headlamp off a Facelift
« on: 21 March 2012, 03:45:53 »

One of my headlamps has what looks to be a bad case of condensation under the lamp lense which has just happened all of a sudden one morning. Just wondering what's the best option replace it or clean it / try dry it out ? I've no idea how this could have happened  :-\ .... in case it helps it's a 2002 GLS 2.2i 16v Petrol Auto and the problem lamp is the Passenger side lamp :o ... any advice would be great as I'm not sure what to do. Was thinking if the dampness got on the bulbs when driving at night etc.. ( I'll also try and upload a pic of the lamp in question ) Thanks  :y

Hello, I had this last year and was told to just run around with the lights on for a day and it will go away. It did and has not come back so far. :y

Here's 2 picture's after a few miles with main beam on.

As you can see below the indicator part of the lamp is the worst area where the main beam doesn't heat up  :-\

Ok, back to the essay ::)

There's 3 bolts to undo, all 8mm, two on top and one underneath. The underneath one is accessed by removing the trim below the light unit... plastic rivet at the radiator end then swing outward and lift away :y

If xenon, undo the battery, wait half hour then remove and unplug, if not just unplug as you lift the unit out :y

Overnight in the airing cupboard should do it. Just make sure that all the covers are fitted right on the back of the unit, (indicator included).

Thanks Al  :y
They are just the standard lamps not the xenon so will dig right in asap. Might use a hair dryer once off
( Please Note: the hair dryer isn't mine  ;D  )

Hair dryer doesn't work...I tried and failed. In truth it made the condensation a lot worse.

No !   Between your original post and the pictures seems to have been a matter of hours.

You'll need to drive with your lights on for a day or so to eradicate the condensation completely.

Dipped beam most of the time obviously and full beam when you don't run the risk of blinding the heck out of oncoming traffic.

Give it a day or so and it will go...unlikely to return.

Had the same problem...did the above and it hasn't come back in well over a year.
