A friend has got one of these, the EML has come on, he has had the code read at Kwikfit and it comes up with code P2002 Particle Filter Bank 1.

Found this on US VW Diesel website.

I'm trying to get hold of friend, to find out if light is flashing.

Has anybody got any experience of this and can make some suggestions?

Is it the EML light or the Diesel Particulate filter light? There are known issues with DPF and short runs. They need regular longer runs to allow the DPF to regen. I have a Seat Ibiza with the same system. I have a light on the dash board. If it lights up yellow then I need to take it for a run. If it likes up Red I've blown it and am looking at taking it for a forced regen at the dealers and if that fails a thousand pound bill. The Audi might use a different system on the light and it being flashing might mean the filter is now knackered. You can feel when they are doing a Auto regen when your driving. The idle speed picks up and the engine feels rough at idle. Your mate needs to find somebody to plug in his car to something a bit better than the poxy reader Kwik Fit will be using. I use a program called VCDS (use to be VAG com) which is excellent.

Sorry Rods I only have a question for the populus, why does the car have to actually do miles to recycle the DPF. Can it not be put into a mode, while parked, that just raises the revs to the desired level...?

This wouldn't be the car that kwikshit forgot to put the sump plug back in during a service by any chance
I forget who posted about it, but was in that part of the world  if it is, I have two questions:

1. Could the issue stem from the engine change, presumably the exhaust was dropped so could be a loose wire or a knackered DPF
2. Did they learn nothing from the service incident

If it's a different car, was it the same kwickshit? and to rephrase question 2, when will people learn

The forced re-gen does put the car into a mode for 5-10 minutes with increased revs to do a regen. 

However, its a compromise and can result in diesel in the sump as the ideal is to regen whilst the engine is under load.

i blame the owners for buying these type of cars and not doing there homework.all new diesels that have this system have this problem if the cars are only used on short journeys.they have to be taken for a good run and if they are not they get problems which can lead to big bills,but i would have thought that anybody who buys a 3.0 liter would be doing more miles than just the school/shopping run!and if they not they should have bought a petrol model.

When I see campaigns such as Peugeot's "just add petrol" adverts it concerns me that people then feel they don't need to familiarise themselves with a car, much past this round thing turns it, this pedal stops it, and this pedal makes it go.

Although it does seem odd that the technicalitys of a car mean the owner must now drive on a motorway for a specified period or face a large bill. Thats not on IMO.

If you do a reasonable run there fine. My commute to work is 12 miles on 40,50,60 and dual carriageways. I've never had the light come on. However I have been aware of the car doing a regen about 3 times in 9 months. When I purchased mine the salesman went to great lengths to see if my driving habits were suitable for DPF enabled car. They were. If they weren't he was quite blunt in saying he wouldn't sell me one. You've also got a warning light. It's just that a warning light. If it goes orange go for drive. You don't have to go mad. If you ignore then it goes red and you at the mercy of the stealers. I've heard of force regens taking more than a hour to complete. Most manufacturers will give you one of these FOC in the history of the car. Drive it right no issues. Don't then it will cost. Think back to the good old days when you had to take a car for a run otherwise it coked up. It's just the same but because everybodys got lazy with looking after cars they get issues because they don't look after them the way there intended. My hand book has a great bit in it about looking after the DPF. I wonder how many people just sling the handbook in the draw and forget about it.

No it is not car that required a new engine.

His trip to work is about 12mile, mainly on 60mph dual carriageway. It is regularly used for longer runs, where he runs his own business and has to do quite a lot of travelling in conjunction with this.

Unfortunately, the guy is not mechanically minded, so it is a trip to the local VW stealers, Caffyns where he lives near Worthing.

Could try GCS at Monks Gate, just outside Horsham on the A281.

Have heard good things about them and they deal mostly with VAG vehicles. Not surprising given that most of the VW dealers here abouts are utter shyte.
