Vectra 1.8
« on: 06 April 2012, 08:26:41 »

You may remember a few months ago that my neighbours Vectra nearly shed it's cam belt, had it done at his usual local independant, and within a week it did shed it's cam belt.

They told him it was a faulty part, but re-built it, including a head skim, took them several weeks.

Since he's had it back, it's been losing water from the rear of the engine, they've told him because it's an old car, there's lots of corrosion, and they can't get a proper seal, but it's OK, keep topping up.

He's taken it somewhere else, who say it's the head gasket, and the head needs to come off and be re-skimmed!

I was wondering if a Vectra, it's a 1.8 petrol, year 2000, has an HBV, and could that be leaking?

Any ideas?

When my HG went on my 2.0 vectra there was a lot of corrosion in and around the water ways/possible lack of coolant for some time before i owned it .

Apparently the vectra does have a hbv .

Yep, they do have a HBV.  However, it is much more likely that something has been disturbed during all that work.  Split pipe or weak jubilee clip
