i had my mig mot,d to-day, it passed, but tester said it has a crack in the n/side corner about 5ins & it would need a new screen before it,s next m.o.t. i have heard they are very expensive. i can have it replaced for £75 on my insurance, but i believe it would count as a claim on my insurance & i would lose my ncb. is this true. tia mel.

I had my last omega windscreen replaced through my insurance, cost £60. iirc, it doesn't count as a claim, but check with your insurer, as it doesn't with mine

It's never counted against my ncb in the past, although as you say, they do make a note on your policy that you've had a 'claim'. Phone them & ask.

Better to ask mate, though I think most policies include windscreen cover now?

Agree better to check policy.  Note that a windcreen does count as a claim of you wish to cancel the cancel the policy.

Also, don't go anywhere near rac windscreens.  I'd even avoid insurers that use them.
 Long rants on here about how useless they are

rac autowindscreen went bust last year   use autoglass they are as good as it gets

thanks for advice to you all, i will phone and check with my insurers. they say i have to use auto glass on my certificate, i have only had the policy for a couple of days, i was with aviva for 2yrs they wanted £485 i got for £443 from sainsburies. cheers. mel.

I'd be inclined to live with it for at least a few weeks, otherwise the insurance company might think you were trying to pull the wool over their eyes when you took the policy out ........... they might think that you already knew it needed a new one.

I had a windscreen crack. Got new one through the insurance. Two days later I had to have another one fitted. Man at insurance company pissed himself laughing and told me not to worry it wasn't the first time somebody had two misfortunes in as many days

Most Insurance Co's count it towards the NCB, meaning if you had 5 years NCB at the start of this year and you claim for a screen, then the start of next year your still have 5 years NCB instead of 6, its not counted as a accident claim though.

if its not in your vision i would leave it as it is!! until atleast may due to them still gritting roads it would be sodz law if you fit a new screen & it gets chipped etc from road grit! 

i need a new screen in mine (cracked from o/s top corner by a stone) but my mot isnt until nov so going to wait until may/june before i get mine done, if your fully comp should'nt effect your ncb but some 3pft policys may take 1 year off tho but as said before worth asking or reading your policy booklet when it comes threw in post
