I don't know what the current VAG lineup is like, but they used to have the engine mounted along the car, like an Omega, driving the front wheels  :o

I guess the gearbox must have been at the back and then down to the driveshafts?


yeah someone I knew had an 06 plate A6 or something like that. i didn't really take much notice of it, and it had that configuration. Two drive shafts coming out the sides of what looked like a rwd box, like 'sticks for arms on a snowman'.

As others have said, some FWD Audi A4's have longitudinal engines, guess as some are available in 4x4 config.

As others have said, some FWD Audi A4's have longitudinal engines, guess as some are available in 4x4 config.

.. and locating the engine way out in front of the front axle enhances the understeer nicely. :-\

as well as the first FWD Cadillacs and Oldsmobiles did  :y Remember first Olds Tornado and the huge FWD Eldorado with 500 cubic inch engine  :y

No, I mean a later one. And, as usual, I might be wrong again but I think the later Tercel had transverse engine  :-\
