missing on start up
« on: 06 May 2012, 22:53:11 »

Hi all ive noticed that my car smells of fuel on start up and run on 3 cyclinders.once ive put my code reader on it runs fine .
keeps coming up as cyclinder 3 miss fire .
changed the plugs and cam belt last week .

The problem i had was that when i put the belt on the crank moved i put it back to where it was and once i turned the crank by hand it went so far then stopped in both directions .the cam pulleys did not move .
So what i did i put o long bolt down the plug hole and turned the crank so that no 1 cyclinder was at the top .put the belt back on and tryed it .all went well . the missing happened before i changed the belt .
 Any ideas ??

If it has only happened since belt change, , and assuming valve timing is now correct, compression test that cylinder...

edit, just seeen you wrote it happened prior to belt change. So, in this order.

1 compression test the pot thats missing. If ok,

2 replace plugs
3 try a known good coil pack

you could mess about swapping plugs to see if the code moves between cylinders, or replace the plugs, that's your call...

plugs have been changed . Like you say could be coil pack . Had trouble last year with car and ended up getting one from auto factors. Did the job but not proper vauxhall . Woulded if timing was out on compression stroke or exhaust stroke would that make any difference.
