Nice and quiet now
« on: 16 May 2012, 22:13:29 »

The elite has always had the tiniest of exhaust blows but in the last few weeks it got slightly worse, then got alot worse 30 mins into a 6 hr round trip to get another elite. Great, I hate that droning noise  :'( Anyway, got my head under there and saw that the entire circumference of one of the centre sections had corroded about 2-3 inches from the join to backbox.

Ordered two eternal centre sections and fitted them, bloody pain in the arse. Also managed to retain my Irmscher double d backbox which is in mint condition (has remus written on it). Straightened the backbox up aswell, it was never fully level and looked a bit like a boyracer bodge.

Anyway, so the point is, it's all lovely and quiet now, just like it should be, serenely cruising down the street, Bonus :y! Makes drilling out the cat flanges seem worth it now.

Also had some fun starting the engine when the exhaust was off :-X and drove it from one place of work to another (a few miles, not by choice) like that, bloody loud hahaha

I wonder how much a fast fit place would've charged for replacing two v6 centre sections?

One of my biggest regrets is getting rid of my old skool GM exhaust prematurely and replacing it with what I have now. Can't wait to replace it and experience some serenity! Just need some funding  :-\

It had aftermarket silencers on anyway, which were quiet, but still gave a nice v6 sound. These are great aswell.

My MV6 has got a stainless steel pwerflow (not very stainless though!), and that sounds terrible, I think.

That's where they all go Geoff. Pita job.
In fact very similar experiences all round. Good old Eternal.

Allan (yzf250?) mentioned his Jetex a while back. Danny had his 3.0 round for some work. Happens to have a Jetex system, loud. But not loud in the car until you boot it. It's has sport cats too though, and all welded joins by the looks. Not good for 3.2 with pre cat issues to fix. But I liked it, personally.:)

It was bearable I must admit and gave a nice noise when the foot was down :y Not entirely sure I could justify Jetex prices over 3 (or more) Eternal systems though :-\

Shoulders the bore size is odd at 68mm.

Without doubt the best all round exhaust was the original GM one on the V6's.
I've had a jetex system for about five years now but even back then I gave the replacement some serious thought due to the cost. I certainly couldn't justify it now on a 52 plate ( I didn't say I wouldn't do it, I just said I couldn't justify it ).  ;D

Surprised that it was loud.  :-\  Mine is boringly quiet but under load does boom/drone slightly. Quiet at normal driving speed but sounds decent when you boot it. I doubt anyone outside of the car would even notice any difference. Wonder if the sports cats make much difference noise wise.  :-\  Would still prefer original genuine GM zorst noise wise if possibe though.  :y

Allan (yzf250?)

Hey up. I've turned in to a four stroke overnight.  ;D :y
