Any LPG experts around?
« on: 07 April 2008, 19:03:20 »

Was going to be asking James, as he installed it but........
I had an uprated chip in the old omega and transfered to the new. The LPG kicked off a bit and was all over the place. I managed to work out that it needed to be calibrated again.
I ran the auto-calibration but there were still flat spots and slightly lumpy idle. When watching the readout, injectors 1,2 and 3 were running slightly slower than 4,5, and 6.
I increased the response time of 123 by 15% which seemed to bring it all into line. It now runs smoothly and idles perfectly.

Just wanted reassurance that these new values will not cause any long term, adverse effects.   :-/

Think this should be in general help, sorry  :-[

Personally i treat up-rated chips with a but of scepticism, what values have been changed to warrant it being branded up-rated?

what readings are the lambdas giving whilst running?

If possible get a screen shot of the system after calibration showing the mixture curves and post it up here

On the chip, I don't know. It was an ebay purchase from Germany 2.5 years ago.
The values changed were on the lpg software and nothing to do with chip.

Thats what I thought  :y  Just reassurance, thats all. Don't want it to be running out of time on 1 bank or anything silly like that, but it seems spot on.

That is a bit odd. An inbalance between banks can result from a difference in airflow between the two, and hence different fuel trims being applied by the Lambda sensors.

Did this inbalance exist with the old chip? If not, I'd suggest someone has tweaked the fuelling for one bank only in the chip. :-/

It'd be interesting to look at the live data with a tech 2. Are both Lambda sensors cycling with the current settings?

In theory a chip with a little extra ignition advance would be a good thing for LPG, but what worries me is what they've done to the fuel maps.

sure i understand that the changes were on the LPG side.

For the Chp to be classified as up-rated some of its values would have been changed when it was made

That is a very good point Kevin. That sounds like a perfect description and I am starting to suspect that it could have been the cause of the major, terminal missfire on one bank of the old omega. Prolonged advanced timing on one bank only would not be healthy.
I am gonna take the chip out and put the standard back and then recalibrate and see what it produces.

Thanks for that moment of inspiration  :y

The other option is that the cam timing on one of the banks is a tooth out, but I'd expect the problem to exist with a standard chip too. :-/

Kevin did some of the fuel trims on that one.

I did mine by driving and getting it not cutting to petrol and trying to match petrol gas consumption at similar speeds

I need to visit some time with RISN and see what can be done
