I have a Motorbike problem
« on: 06 April 2008, 18:10:35 »

I changed my spark plugs on my TLR and ended up with a problem with my alarm/immobliser. The alarm is permanently on and the remote doesn't switch it off.

Bloomin thing...and I was just going to take it out for a spin (in the snow).....NOT!!!

Definitely wot he said^^^^  :y :y :y

Could be a simple wire knocked off.

Just to save you with a load of digging around though... Have you checked the battery in the remote?? Be terribly embarrassing if that was all it was!!

I once got called out by a breakdown club to a motorcyclist who couldn't get his bike started... Took me about 3 seconds to see what was wrong. He'd nudged the kill switch by accident!!!!  :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

Told him not to worry... We've all done it at some point!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I've got a TLR too

Done my plugs a few weeks back

Have you re-fitted the wiring plug for the horn ok?

I'm pressuming you took both side panels off to get access to rads to get to front plug etc

Have you checked the fuse/relays on right hand side and the big jumble of wires on the left by the rear of headlights?

Stating the obvious but how old is the battery in the alarm remote?
(some bike alarms wont respond if the kill switch is in the OFF position)

Have you got a spare remote and/or remote battery?

Just check and re-check all wiring plugs that you have to undo to get air box out etc

To be honest, I haven't done much checking. The only plugs that I unplugged were the indicators. I took both side off with the fairing. I've got two remotes. I checked the batteries in both and they are both ok (I think) with working batteries. The bike battery is a few years old, but I leave it on trickle charge when it's parked up - the lights work well so  I don't think it's that.

It's weird...It was ok when I first change the plugs. But after trying to start it, the alarm went a bit odd. Firstly, I noticed that the immobiliser wouldn't switch off, then when I turned on the ignition, the alarm went off but I couldn't switch it off. Time to try and find some troubleshooting guides for a Meta 300.

I'll have a play over the next few days.

Well two things spring to mind:

1st my bike alarm doesn't disarm if the kill switch is off.

2nd I had an alarm that just went mental when I was riding along - I didn't actually hear the alarm at the time but both indicators were flashing and that bike certainly didn't have hazzards....anyway the alarm had just packed up...

have you washed the bike or got the alarm unit wet/damp? had a problem with the datatool/meta on my rf9 a few weeks ago, all the bike shops/dealers wanted to take the bike away and charge a fortune to reset/reconfigure the unit. pm me and i will talk you through it if it helps? :y
