Oil filter conversion
« on: 25 April 2012, 16:20:00 »

Thinking of doing this and my question is regarding the threadlock.

I have some Loctite 55 and Loctite 577 (which is like threadlock) but not sure if its permanent.

This stuff works great on threaded pipework with water and gas. Can I use either of these instead?

Also, am I right in thinking the part number for the nipple/connector is 90412159 ?

90412159 is correct and use the 577 which is more resistant to oil than the 55 and permanent  :y

One more question, do I need to wait before I fit the filter/fill with oil and start the car after fitting the connector?

Best to nick some of the wife's Cotton Buds to clear/soak most of the oil from the female threads
And yes it's ok to reassemble straight away I waited about 10 mins
Obviously don't apply any sealant on the male threads of the sleeve that are used by the filter

Hi, I actually have a Vectra not an Omega, fitted with an X18XE1 engine, which probably has been fitted an Omega or the 2.0 litre version has at some point.  Anyway, I have had the same problems with the oil filter housing as mentioned by other members on this site. The photos in the conversion to a canister type of oil filter look the same as my engine and so would the conversion be the same? Do I need the same adapter stud as mentioned and what is the ref. no. of the oil filter that I would require, as the ref no. is not shown in the photos. Is it as simple, as using the canister oil filter as fitted to the X18Xe engine? Many thanks!
