Induction noise, normal??
« on: 02 June 2012, 07:54:48 »

Hi guys, yes me again!
This is going to be damn near impossible to explain unless you are actually hear listening to it but my Omega now seems to have a bit of what I can only describe as an "induction noise-leak". Q?: on idle (x25xe) With my ear on top of the intake cover you can definatly hear it and even inside driving you can "just" hear it at low revs..so can you actually hear an induction noise on these things, I dont remeber hearing this before!??
To better help explain.. right back to the beginning, about a month ago I got the boot up the tart (200kph +) with 4 p.o.b the eml came on. The car has always run well but instantly one morning a week later on start-up it was instanly running like cr@p With a bit of investigation i found with either a combination of a blocked cat and probably even more blocked breathers i blew the cover gaskets out and filled the plug holes with oil and melted the air injection supply line, all normal stuff... Anyway, I straight piped the cats had a go at sealing the cover gaskets (new ones here from the dealer are 500 Pound!) well that didnt work, new ones from UK, cleaned everything out, new leads (after a visual and resistance check) and new plugs. Disconected the air injection, main fuse for pump pulled outlets blocked but still plugged in and finally today all back together! runs much better but still has a lumpy idle / missfire (im thinking coil even though it looks brand new..) but there is still this bloody intake noise!  i have had the thing pulled down to the bottom intakes 3 times checking for any leaks etc, cant find a thing, ive followed the vacuum pipes back and all SEEMS ok, ive disconected vacuum pipes sucked and blown down all the lines for pressure test, all seems fine(hell my cars getting more action than I am!) and ive used damn near a whole can of "easy start" sprayed around all the joints while the engine is running, nothing!  im part convinced that this "leak" is part of the reason my car is running like crap but kinda know its probably the coil but for my own sanity what have i missed!??  Thanks guys!

have you cleaned the throttle body out because if the breathers were blocked chances are the throttle body may well be full of crap also (see maintanence guide on forum),if you can read the codes stored from eml coming up would be worth posting on here HTH :y also if rocker gaskets were leaking and plug wells full of oil chances are you may have damaged the dis pac :-\,check dis pac for signs of damage cracking etc :y as for the induction noise it tends to suggest an air leak  ;)

Hi Noel, thanks for the reply, yes all cleaned out brand new cover gaskets new plugs and leads. detached and blocked the air injection system and egr valve (all still wired up) have checked the vacuum system and that seems to hold its pressure ok and used 2 cans of "easy start" looking for leaks. checked the intake system by putting my big mouth over the intakes and pressurising them.. hey it worked!(i think)  new O rings fitted. the coil is the unknown, 50/50 ive ordered a new one (bosch)so that will be here in a few weeks but the orgional one "looks" like new, no marks etc but by reason of deduction im sure it half the problem. i cleared the codes ("My Naff Code Reader") and nothing has come back up.. yet! one thing im not %100 is having the ICV and rear manifold plugs the right way around, looking for colour codes now. the colour coding for the front manifold and rear are the same so i suspect its right. It is running much better but its still "lumpy" but its this bloody induction noise thats getting me im sure it wasnt like that before and if it wasnt im bloody sure its half the problem why this thing still runs rough. Listening for it it seems to be coming from the intake manifold area but i just cant pin point it....any ideas!?

...and just to add. the noise sounds more on idle and slowly gets less with about one inch of throttle, you can still hear it but much less.  im about to go postal!

ok, further to the above and reading a heap more similar posts ive tracked the hissing down to the idle control valve, squeeze the intake hose and the sound slowly dissapears as you squeeze it untill the car stalls so am i guessing this is normal??  cheers!
