been getting a puff of smoke form exhaust on start up for about 2 seconds then followed by a click sound then all is fine . Believe this could be valve stem seals . Unless anyone has any other suggestions
Does anybody have any advice on stem seal replacement (can this be done without removing heads ??)

There's a bit more to it than that.

First you've got to have a method for keeping the valves closed while compressing the valve springs.  This could be compressed air through a special adaptor into the spark plug holes, or more 'ghetto'; rope fed into the cylinder down same hole with piston low, and then the piston moved up 'til it will go no further against the rope.

Then you need a tool that will push each top spring retainer downward far enough to get the valve collets off the stem, releasing the top retainer, giving access to the seal.  If you're a bit handy you may be able to lash up some sort of lever system DIY.

Not a quick and easy job by any means.

Mines been merrily doing it for 3 years  IIRC Vauxhall say it is not a problem unless you start using more than 1litre of oil per 1000 mile.

Had thought about trying Forte seal conditioner to see if that helps , but im sure someone will be along who has tried some maybe

I've used stp oil treatment in the past,had an astra mk1 van that loved oil,chucked a tin of that in and it cut it down by 90% easily
