CCRT700 / CDC2 - strange problem ...........
« on: 08 August 2012, 03:44:09 »

I have a strange issue with the above. Over a period of a month or so the CDC2 will gradually die - by that I mean that it will be able to access fewer & fewer discs until eventually none at all.

I then swap it over with a spare CDC2 - which then works fine for another few weeks and then starts going the same way .............

All's well for another month or so until the replacement dies totally so I put the first one back again - it having done nothing except sit on a shelf in the meantime.

I've tried just unplugging either one when dead for a few days - but it seems it likes this nice long break to sort itself out.

I suppose I ought to replace the 700 - but would welcome comments .......

Check the earth connections - failing that could be a capacitor that is dying inside the head unit on the cd interface section.

Cant help much further as no longer got the manuals for that one

I think I've got a CCRT700 and CDC2 from a MFL elite estate somewhere Rob.  If you get stuck let me know, and I'll try and dig it out for you.  :y

Thanks for the feedback guys - my plan is to start keeping records (written that is  ;D) about the failure mode and see if I can pin it down a bit.

I've actually got a "few" CDC2s and a 700 somewhere - so will have to go into detective mode methinks.

Suspect its the laser, although normally quite robust in those.

Mrs TB's Rover, before I severely shortened it by a couple of feet, had similar problem (Philips changer, dodgy lasers), worse in the winter. We had 2 changers, and just kept swapping them over every week or so. Always suspected that maybe the condensation forming on lens was just enough to push it over the edge  :-\

Agreed, the Blaupunkts tend to either work or fail, seldom die slowly

The build quality of the CCRT700 was really piss-poor, and they do seem to suffer all sorts of gremlins along these lines - most commonly dried out caps or software bugs in the main microprocessor
