rear seat loom
« on: 11 September 2012, 15:18:25 »

When I collected the elite seats I thought and so did seller that all the wiring was there, we both looked and could see nothing else.  I am now certain I missed something, I have all the wiring from the centre console back to the rear seat, connects to the loom with 2 relays and two connectors, problem is neither seat or back fit those sockets, is there another loom that joins all four pad and then joins the loom I have?  The rest is going well, just taking it steady.

Each back/base will connect to each other in series - giving a single connector for each side. That then connects to the trailing connector which has come from the relays/sub loom which is under the foam insulation pad and clipped "inside" the box section of the metal seat base. The relays than have a single multi-pin connector which plugs into the car harness. So, the loom with the 2 relays will have three connectors - a single multipin and two 2 pin ones.

Does that make sense?

Rob
Just been out to look and all ias you said, the "missing" leads were well tucked away, so all is looking good now, many thanks for putting up with the ??????'s and I can actually understand thos drawings you sent, one final one, is there and particular point you would suggest for earth when doing this.

I'm assuming that the main car loom connector isn't there in yours - as that would have an earth connection?

On an aside, each seat takes about 5.5amps when working. So, I'd suggest a 15 or 20 amp fuse and wiring sized accordingly ........

Going to take the power from the fused connections as listed in your "how to do" no the only loom fitted is the front seat switch loom

Ok - just be wary of the fuse rating. I guess you are then just extending the connections from the switches at the back of the centre console to the relay location as those connections will be missing if the multipin connection isn't there.

As far as the earth connection is concerned, I'd drill a small hole into the box section near the relays for the rear seat and use a chunky self tapper screw. Use a decent size crimp on the cable though.

Rob thanks, as for the rear loom I have all the loom (i think) including the multi connector so really just extending the feed and earth, for front extending the cables from the seat plug on the side and taking connections as per you drawing, feel very confidant but will allow myself a whole steady day to do it, bags of solder, shrink film and cloth insulating tape to hand and of course a kettle.  Will let you know how it goes.

If the earth connection within the loom is long enough and you are stripping it out of the loom - then it might just reach the NS earth point. This is up under the kick panel a few inches on the vertical. You will find several connections there - just undo the nut, put the new crimp in place and pop the nut back on again.  :y
