Front door lock mechanism help
« on: 29 September 2012, 13:00:16 »

Hi guys, hope you're all well and enjoying the weekend.  :)

Ok so last night was out and about, the other half gets in the pass. front door and goes to shut it... ''clunk''. door wont shut.

So anyway eventually (no tools to hand  ::)) freed up the lock/latch and it just seemed that it got stuck for some bizarre reason. tried it a few times this morning and it's opening and shutting and latching no problem, however do you think its worth putting a drop of 3in1 on the lock/latch just to lube it up?

i spent this morning getting the mechanism (with door motor) out of ralf in preperation for when it does go wrong again  ::) so thats fine, if it goes bad again ill replace, no problem. but obviously just wondered if i popped a bit of oil if that would save me the job  :y

ps, when i say ''drop'' of oil thats what i mean as im fully aware the electrical motor is directly underneath  :y

When you say it won't shut is it stopping before its going through the mechanism? Or is it closing (and going flush with body, ie sitting where its supposed to) But just not "locking"

You can test the latch with a screw driver, pull it back, then pull door handle to see if releases.

Do this with door open though  :)

If it's just the latch that's stuck, try blasting in where you can with something like chain lub  via the can's straw. You're not going to bugger the motor up  ;) You'll be more effective if you take the door card off though.  :y

You can't squirt 3in1 the same but it's fine to use .  ;)  ;)  ;) You need to get yourself something like chain lub, it comes in a aerosol can & has a straw for squirting into holes  ::) It reasonably sticky & doesn't wash off, but it''ll get into the nooks & crannies in a lock mechanism.  :y

I see what you mean mate. To be honest Andy I was just going to pop a drop on the little hinge that's visible and hope that would ''spread'' during mechanism  :-\
However your post suggests I really need to ''get in there''?  :-\

Cheers  :y
