LPG leak?
« on: 20 September 2012, 12:31:22 »

I seem to be going through an alarming amount of gas lately and was wondering about how best to find any possible leak? Match.... ;D.  The kit has been on for 10 yrs so I wouldn't be surprised if a pipe has gone brittle. I have very little sense of smell due to an op. I have some fluid for detecting household leaks but would this work with LPG??

As well what type of pipe and connectors are generally used should I find said leakage???

If there is a leak there, is a very strong smell. Can you get a friend to have a sniff?

The valve on the tank should kick in to not loose too much, but check around the filter area and the feed to the vaporiser. Also check all feed pipes to injectors  :y

Okay im your lass,  :y

firstly sorry to hear you have no sense of smell does have its good points though.

right lests get to it......

just because your getting through a lot of gass doesnt mean you have a leak.

few questions for you.
1. when was the car last serviced? ( plugs oil and filters)
2. when did the LPG filter last get changed.
3. has the fuel petrol consumption increased?

right leak finding best thing i use is lemon fariy and water in a small spray bottle :y :y

try not to use too much. if possible grab a mate to borrow there nose just to see if they can smell gas.

working logically spraying each join in turn and looking while the car is running.

you may also need to do it after you turn the car off as you might find its leaking like  the boys ( next to the liquied filter before it goes into the reducer.

your more then welcome to pm me and ill give you my number if you need someone at the end of the phone. :y :y

Well think I can smell a general gassy smell around the car, like you get when disconnecting the gas filler. No smell under the bonnet which I would expect to be the most likely area, if I have this right..one( or two ?) pipe from tank running under the car to the vapouriser then six pipes from this to the injectors( which on mine are all under the plenum) i.e not much sign of pipeage to be seen/checked?

Needless to say I will be running on petrol for the forseeable future :o!!!!

Cheers Marie for the tips, serviced 5k ago, LPG filter done 15k ago , yep it seems to be doing less MPG
