Xenon ballast
« on: 05 October 2012, 06:23:44 »

Is there any ways to measure the ballast to find out whether the ballast is faulty or no or is the fault somewhere else?

I have a problem with one headlight, it works most of the time ok but say every 20th time it does not light up. Bulb is good/new, no other work done in this area etc so everything points to ballast but would it not even work or not and not just fail occasionally?

Not sure, but be careful when playing with it as very high voltage is involved. ;)

Swap ballast side to side, see if fault goes with ballast.

Mind fingers, they put out high voltages...

There aren't any tests the end user can perform on the ballast itself unless they happen to have a qualification in electronic servicing.

It is possible for a ballast to perform intermittently, so TB's suggestion of swapping the ballast for the other side to see if the fault goes with it is really the only way to determine for sure.

Thanks for all the replies. Will try swapping and if no luck source a new one. Or second hand. Or a "universal" ballast which are also available. Price does matter but then again genuine and original is always genuine and original.

Speaking of obtaining a second hand ballast, how can I make sure it is ok? I assume new from main dealer are quite expensive?

I would think so - but I'd be happy to let you have a known good one as long as you cover the postage cost to Finland
