Rear wheel bearing replacement
« on: 18 October 2012, 09:18:09 »

Hey,

My rear driver side wheel bearing needs replacing and my mechanic told me its going to cost over $700. I've been told by a couple of people that I'm being ripped off, just wondering what you all think, as my husband and I know pretty much nothing about cars.

Cheers :)

Hello & Welcome...

That sounds expensive, but I dont know your currency and values...

as a comparison I had one done about a month ago, I bought the bearing for about £40, and paid £80 to have it fitted at a local garage.
I do think I paid a 'good' price for the job.  Not many would do it cheaper I expect.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

My currency is AUD, 700 seems like a massive rip off in comparison :/

If the job goes well it takes 2 hours, if it goes bad then its 4 hours.

Plus a bearing.

Had mine done last year
200 notes - don't know what that translates to currency wise.
200 was more or less what was quoted around where I live in London

You might not be in the right place unfortunately.....

Omegaowners is a forum for Opel Omega B and its relatives, sold mostly in Europe, but which actually included the Holden VT and VT2 - shape Commodore, etc.

The Holden VE is based on a different platform and is not related to Omega B

Sorry.
