MV6 Clutch issues
« on: 24 November 2012, 13:10:36 »

Can anyone help, I was just driving my 98 MV6 (3.0L) manual when I changed gear I felt some go (like a cable had snapped) but with it being hydraulic this obviously isn't the case, the pedal then felt strange light and not working correctly. I can pull away and change gear but the clutch is now slipping when I rev the car.

I have managed to get it home but will need to remove the box to sort it. is this some thing anyone else has had? I figured it might br the slave cylinder gone but would that cause the clutch to slip.

Thanks
Craig

Is the brake fluid above the minimum mark ?

Release bearings fail with a bang, so probably not that :-\

Any sign of fluid under the bell housing where it joins the engine?

I've checked the fluid (I take it is only the 1 resivoir) that is above the min mark. there was no bang when it went and no sign of fluid, but I haven't got under the car yet.

If it's leaking it will either by the clutch master cylinder at the top of the pedal or in the bellhousing.

Been through any deep water lately :-\

Mine slips noticeably when wet. Thinking the rubber plug between the sump and bellhousing might be missing ::)

If worn out, my experience is that they get gradually worse, rather than failing suddenly, which suggests a fluid problem with yours :-\

I haven't been through any deep water lately, but obviously the roads a very wet at the moment. it was a noticable change in pedal feel, and it is differnt now which could point to fluid leaking but it would be wet under the car and the resivoir would be low.

I will jack the car up tomorrow to see if I can find the problem.
