PC problem semi-sorted
« on: 26 November 2012, 21:06:46 »

I can't find the thread I started a month or so back, but it concerned sound distortion when playing music at the same time as browsing the web.

Tonight I found a thread on another site, in which the poster claimed to have solved the same problem by uninstalling Bullguard Anti-Virus (which I have run for years with no problem on my old XP machine). I didn't uninstall the software, but switched the firewall OFF and, hey presto!, my sound distortion problems were fixed.

I obviously don't want to browse the web without the firewall, so I've emailed Bullguard Tech Support to see what can be done. At least i know what is causing the problem now so, as stated in the title, it's semi-sorted!  :y

there can be several reasons for distortion .. sound hardware sharing the irq or some software working cpu intensive or using timer etc etc..  I have witnessed similiar cases..  :-\

It's not necessarily the fault of Bullguard (although it is a bit of a resource hog anyway), it could be a poorly written soundcard driver.

IIRC you have a Realtek onboard jobbie, I'm sure TB will tell you all about them if you ask him nicely  ;D

If you are going through a router with a firewall built in no need for an additional firewall.
if not uninstall it use windows firewall or install comodo firewall

Hmm. I need to check whether the router has a built in firewall. Thanks.  :y

Are you using the latest manufacturer (motherboard manufacturer that is) drivers?

Something else I need to check. The mobo is a Gigabyte A75-D3H. When I get a moment I'll have a look into that, Martian.  :y

Two different variants, double check your model number
