Hello, everybody! I have 01 Cadillac Catera 3.0, which is Opel Omega.
I replaced piston rings and engine begun running with loud lifter noise. I removed valve covers and noticed that intake valves of 3 and 5 cylinders didn't have oil around lifters. I removed lifters and bled them according to instructions.
I pressed lifters a few times by C-clamp to bleed oil out until I was able to do that by finger.
I placed lifter in ATF and begun to press it to let fluid in and air out. Well, air bubbles stopped going out of lifter, but I could still press it by finger.
I believe I shouldn't be able to press lifter piston in as soon as air escapes.
Are my lifters bad? Did I bleed them wrong way?

No, thats correct!

When re-filling in that way you will get some oil in but not much and the oil wont be at any pressure (as they are pressure fed when in the head)

Any ideas about missing oil around 4 lifters?
4 rear intake lifters on right side didn't have oil around them. 3rd and 5th cylinders.

Given the re-build you have had to do (never known anybody have to do this much work on this engine), are you confident the oil ways are clear?

The head oil feeds enter via a copper O ring mounted in the head gasket, this then passes via two T-vents which have a torx head and are screwed into the upper side of the head. This controls the feed to the cams and the followers so these are well worth removing and checking!

You can also crank the engine over with the cams and spark plugs removed (T-vents fitted) to check for presence of oil at the cam and followers.

Different engine, vauxhall/opel corsa which has had the valves replaced. the hydraulic tappet rattle didnt go until the engine was fully warm after which a quick oil change = nice quiet  tappets.
