I don't know on the market value of that car, but I would say that Toyota's in general have very good sturdy engines!

I have recently parted with a 1989 Toyota Carina II 1600 estate that had completed 240,000 miles.  Although I regularly worked on the engine and always fitted genuine Toyota parts, with semi-synthetic oil used, it was still a very sound engine.  It was still capable of 120 mph runs - yes and I had completely overhauled the braking system, including renewing all brake pipes - and it was only the bodywork that was starting to show signs of real age.

I now love my Omega, but if I could afford a second car I would certainly buy a Toyota!

Put money aside for a new clutch and gearbox mate.  They destroy them both regularly, otherwise reasonable cars.
