flooded passenger side
« on: 28 December 2012, 09:45:51 »

Morning chaps,

I have a very soggy rear passenger foot well and a damp front passenger footwell.

After a good read through previous posts on the subject I am unfortunately none the wiser.

There is no blockage by the pollen filter and the windscreen is sealed ok. The car has a sunroof could that be the cause?

The heater matrix seems to be working fine (apart from no heat on passenger side) and it is water not coolant in the footwells.

I am going to have to take the carpets up as it is soaking.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to where the water might be coming from?

Thanks in advance!

Check for a hole in the chassis, best checked from underneath.

 .....

The sunroof drains are in each of the four corners, the front two drain down the A posts into the sills, the rears can be seen in the boot - nearside by the spare wheel & the off side in the cubby hole where the first aid kit would/should live.

Are you sure that the windscreen is sealed I had the same problem and having the screen refitted solved it.Put some soap solution on outside seal and blow an airline from inside of the seal mine bubbled in several places

Double check the pollen filter, there is a drain hole at the bottom corner, it may look ok but check the drain, you can also check the drain hole from under the bonnet, lift the flap and put your finger in.

found the problem!

There was a rusted whole just below where the pollen filter is!

I have cleaned it all up and weld it up tomorrow.

The insulation was soaked so that will probably take a week to dry I should imagine!

Thanks for all the suggestions!

That should of made front passenger footwell soaking & rear one just damp.

Double check for any chassis holes, I tracked one down on my 2.2, underneath footwell area of rear passenger  :y

Well, on closer inspection the front passenger side was actually worse than the back, its just that the insulation had hidden it.

I will test for a leak with the hose today.

In my experience, if you park on an upward slope the front drains into the rear and the rear can appear wetter.
