Vibration on idle
« on: 16 January 2013, 07:51:19 »

This is merely just annoying than a real problem but I'd like to find out the cause and possibly cure it. Y26SE engine with auto box, MY2002 and some 200 000 kilometers on the clock. When standing and idling the car/engine vibrates, in my opinion quite a lot. It does go away when rpm is rised to around 700 but on correct idle it vibrates. No codes, no exessive consumption, fuel filter, plugs and belt are about 40 000 km/2 years old, plugs have been checked recently. Can not say if there are any air leaks but other than this idle issue engine runs perfectly. AC on or off does not make any significant difference, nor does any electric load.

If timing was out it would throw a code? If it was air leak it would affect whole rpm range? Also air leak would give codes?

Crank pulley rubber failed? Sometimes they run out of true.

Engine mounts ok?

Although first thought was a misfire. :(

Does engaging/disengaging gear make any odds?

Crank pulley was off when the belt was done due leaking crank seal, seemed ok then. Any way to check it without taking it off?

Any ways to check the engine mounts?

Misfire...hmmm...coming to think of it why not but it would throw codes?

Will re-check if engaging gear changes anything. What is your thought behind this?

Crank pulley, run engine, see if it wobbles or if it runs true it's ok.

Engine mounts, a visual check from under neith with a bar.

Misfires do normally throw a code, but it needs to be suprisingly bad before a code is actually raised. How old are the coil pacs...?

I think the other pack is original, have only documents that the other has been replaced in the past, say 4 years ago... Replaced one is a Bosch unit. So you think it might be worth replacing the other also? Any ways to check and/or measure these coil packs?

When thinking more, I think I remember once or twice been suspicious if I have heard a slight misfire... So this might be solved then. But would not like to spend some 100 euros to a coil pack which might not be the reason...

Will crawl under the car to check the mounts, also will re-re-check the plugs. Or throw in new ones while there.

Drive by wire v engines are quite difficult to get a good solid tickover ime. They can give a little kick of a miss fire for an apparent reason, especially once warm and tickover drops to 450/500 rpm or whatever it is.

See what others say too though. :)
