I could do with a pointer or two with my 3.2,it's got an after market JVC radio/cd unit fitted due to it being being ex police and it's been in the car since 2004 and has had little use.I've just noticed in last few weeks that when I put the rear window demister on it cuts the signal to the radio.Any advice as usual will be gratefully apreciated

The rear screen is the aerial for the radio & the amplifier is on the rear parcel shelf, so something to do with the radio amplifier? connections ? ? ?

Saloon is under the parcel shelf.

Sandwiched under the fibre shelf but on top of the steel panel.
You can't get to it from the boot so you need to take the fibre shelf out 
- lift out the rear seat base
- fold the seat backs down
- bend up the metal tabs and remove the side cushions
- remove the grab handles above the rear passenger doors
- remove the plastic trim panels from the C-posts either side of the parcel shelf
- remove the headrests & unscrew the plastic peg that the centre armrest locks on to
- remove the fibre shelf
"assembly is the reverse of removal"

or just live with it .............

Stick an external aerial on it would be my professional suggestion.

Internal aerials are simply useless

Last time I had one of them it was a bad Earth on the amp, or do what Dave suggests another Areial, you could use the stubby GSM on the back roof for that year, you will need to replace the whip for a  FM coiled type, forget the Stubby, Bee sting ones, seem to remember looking at your Pic you had something similar on that 2.0 youve just sold.

Your also need to fit or replace the Coax feeder to it with a Car Audio type, as the GSM will be 50 Ohms feeder which will probably work with FM, but not AM / MW.

Many thanks for the advice could well go for the external ariel as long as I don't have to take the car apart to make it work

Might be worth checking that the heated rear window doesn't have any cracks in the traces. These will often arc and cause wideband noise which knocks out any radio signals. The solution is to repair them with conductive paint or scratch them right through.

Best to watch it on a frosty morning and see if any conductors are failing to heat up properly.
