I don't know if this is possible pain wise, but have you tried having a good massage?  I used to get a 'frozen' neck when I was truck driving, brought on by sitting still for hours on end (dodgy posture) and it hurt like hell!!    I used to go and sit in a sauna and then get massaged for an hour after and it sorted the problem!    You have to do it regularly though at least once a week!    If you decide to give it a go, choose your massage establishment very carefully to avoid upsetting Mrs Horsecow!! 

As to your work offer, if you feel you can do it and it won't make the situation worse pain/mobility wise then give it a go!  The sense of well being from being out there working and earning a crust might help you more than you realise.
