Far too humane. Needs to be something worse that a slow, terminal illness.

Apparently he was recieving £60,000 pa in benefits. He would have needed a job which paid £100k p.a. to make it worth his while to work. Despite what the left have been screaming this week,it epitomises everythng that is wrong with our welfare (well unfair) state.

There should be a cap, some people just think they can go on having child after child with no means to support them  >:(

Although it sounds a lot, with 15 kids bet it did not go far  :-\

Real issue is the cost it will be to keep him "safe" in prison, then the inevitable costs of a new identify when he is released. (hopefully someone will get to him before then  ::))

A cap of £26,000 p.a is being applied soon (thats approx £35,000 of a wage before deductions). The usual suspects are screaming blue murder about it being evil, savage, unfair blah blah blah. I personally think its obscene to object to a cap.
He had an extansion built so he could have his own snooker room, haf a sports car and a people carrier and spent plenty of time in the local pubs.He wasnt short of a few bob. He actually had the kids to get more money from the state. It was his career.

I think that's more than enough, I know people who are on considerably less than that, but have a good lifestyle!

If we scrapped benefits and NHS, we would be a very wealthy country  ::)

I agree with the cap Tunnie, it is the rest of the Benefits blitz that raises real doubts! ;) ;)

On your point about a wealthy country; who would be in line for that wealth?  Don't kid yourself if you think it would go to the likes of you or me!  Again the rich would just get richer as usual. ::) ::) ::)

I would not expect the wealth, it's what would happen because of the scrapped benefits. No doubt a huge amount of people would leave!

I would expect better roads though, more cash for you HS2 as well (but lets not go there  ;D)

Fully support the cap, hopefully will make people think a bit more.

Remember though, under a capitalist system the rich have to get richer before the poor can get become less poor. Its the trickle down effect.
The alternative is just to keep taxing the rich more and more to try to make wealth level regardless of all other factors. Its the politics of envy and it has never ever worked.

Trouble is, the country's "average" wage is £25k. The cap is still way to high. Under no circumstance should somebody on benefits be financially better off than someone who works full time.

I have loved this extract since 'discovering' it at uni:

Two nations between whom there is no intercourse and no sympathy; who are ignorant of each other's habits, thoughts and feelings, as if they were dwellers in different zones or inhabitants of different planets; who are formed by different breeding, are fed by different food, are ordered by different manners, and are not governed by the same laws ... THE RICH AND THE POOR.

Benjamin Disraeli 1845

From his novel Sybil. ;)

A Conservative Prime Minister in Victorian England, he is my ideal, along with the later Churchill, of a Conservative Socialist that I profess to be.  In 1874, the Conservatives won a huge election victory and Disraeli once more became prime minister, aged 70. He concentrated on social reform, with a codifying of the law on public health, passed laws to prevent labour exploitation and recognise trades unions.  ;) ;)

Indeed, if you spread the wealth irrespectively of talent, skill, knowledge, dedication, foresight, intelligence etc, you will have people prepared to sit around on their arses, and expect to be paid, and those that are doing all the work to bring the wealth in will soon think "why do I bother", and clear off to somewhere where they are rewarded for their work.

Oh, hang on a mo, we live in such a country.....
