Why is it......
« on: 16 May 2008, 23:11:05 »

That whenever I see a documentary on Tv. about the police they all seem to need to say EVERYTHING three times: "Go-Go-Go"..."Right-Right-Right"..."Brake-Brake-Brake"..."Decamp-Decamp-Decamp"

As a private-pilot, if I felt the need to repeat every R.T message three times, Air Traffic Control would (quite rightly) think I were an incompetent idiot!  ;D

I think it is to do with the lack of diction, so to enable themselves to be understood, say it 3 times.
I trained as a Radio opperator in the Navy, before moving to the fleet air arm, and how you spoke was important. :)

Debs, you have to remember that these are situations of great urgency. Additionally, most ATC transmissions are unaffected by buildings and other interference. And, of course, when a pilot does have an emergency, from what I understand, the word "Mayday" is often repeated!!  ;)

Good point Nick: both 'Mayday' and 'Pan'(unsure of position) are indeed repeated.

IIRC when flying in light aircraft many moons ago, if you were required to bail out "jump" was repeated three times ( well .. in theory anyway !!)

Oh .. and "you have control" was followed by "Bl**dy Heeeellllllll "
