Hi Everyone,

I have a number of Photos which clarify the questions I have, I hope you don't mind?  ???

Although it looks as if there has been a leak here, I think it is from when the 3 way plastic valve with the vacuum pipe at to split and chucked coolant everywhere. My question concerns the ring of white plastic that is on the pipe up against the bulkhead, is this part of the ?push fit connector? And if so should I replace these pipes?

With the Cam locking kit engaged am I able to take cam belt off and leave off until the new kit arrives? If so I can clean the oil & general dross that is covering the cam belt inner housing. I assume I can't take this off without having to unlock the cams?

Should I unplug the alternator and remove from the engine to clean? Should I re-wrap the wiring as the cloth cover is in poor condition?

Is this the main earth wire from engine to body (bottom pic) and do I remove it when I degrease all the oil/dirt and upon refitting do I clean contact points to bare metal?

These 2 pictures show the main wiring loom from the relays and fuses on passenger side, along with the bottom of the power steering fluid reservoir and the ?brake fluid pump. As you can see these also are covered in oil and dirt, I assume that cleaning with degreaser is ok? but is it alright to use "carplan engine cleaner & degreaser - paint on wash off" ?
I don't want to put any water where it might cause future problems, but I do need to clean the engine enough to be able to touch it without being covered in very black, gritty oil  ::)

My thanks to all who have enabled me to get this far safely and feel confident that I can put it back again :y

That's a very smart looking locking kit there Paul  :y.

Great pics too ......

It's certainly worth cleaning as much gunge off as you can. My tip would be to use as much dry paper to clean the stuff off before then using minimal cleaner to finish the job off. You will get off more than you think this way using some paper with a little parafin maybe to ease things along. I then found that I didn't have to use any of the cleaning agents. You will use a lot of paper - so some of that blue stuff (Elephant's bog roll) or kitchen roll is ideal.

Its a bit of a dirty job, but I've previously taken the bottom off the sump and given that a good clean as well. You will be amazed at just how horrible it is in there  :-[ It's a good start for a new diet of regular oil changes for sure.

Cheers Rob  :)

It is a rather nice locking kit   :y

Do you think I should drop the sump? I'm not keen on the Idea  ::)   but if it helps get rid of the stuff inside :-\

You wont be taking the whole sump off - just the lower cover. It's held in place with a fair few torx head screws (between 12 & 20 IIRC). Take it off and then clean out all the crud inside it. There is a connector to undo for the oil level switch. You will need to clean up the mating surfaces and then use some sealant (black IIRC) around the edge and then squash it all up.

I've done two now and was gobsmacked at how horrible it was in there!
