reasonable quotes?
« on: 28 June 2013, 12:20:23 »

I need to get my front caliper replaced and also cambelt and tensioner done. As per my earlier post, having the cambelt changed is something I have neither the tools or expertese to do myself,(something recent posts by Paul and others have only re-enforced ;D) but Ive been quoted £220 + VAT for that which sounds reasonable against some of the other quotes people have given me! The caliper Ive been quoted £130 all in for. Do these seem reasonable to you guys? (the cambelt people say they only use genuine VX parts and offer a guarantee which they obviously wouldnt do if I sourced my own kit for them to put on).Cheers :y

Cheers Paul. Some people very kindly offered on my previous post but Im on the Norfolk coast so probably too far away and there is also no garage to work in either which-weather dependent-could be an issue ;D. If anyone can help however, then please get in touch!

I don't know which engine you have, but if they're using genuine parts then the cambelt change is comparable with the likes of Daz/Elite Pete :-\ They both charge approximately £220 including parts or £100 without iirc :y

Caliper seems a touch high, as it is a pretty easy job, but then I don't know how much a new caliper is for these :-\

I have a pair of used front callipers here from a 98 Elite.  You could have the pair for £30 posted.  Worked absolutely fine before the belt snapped.  :-[

The only problem is that a lot of garages seem to set up the timing slightly out, from historical posts on OOF, whereas if you can use one of the travelling OOF mechanics, cambelts are a piece of the proverbial p*** to them. :y
