Can occur with the in-tank pump assembly on the 2.5TD. Another story.

Don't think that the 2.2DTi has an in-tank pump, so I'd change ALL the leak-off pipes to start with. ;)

I'll guarantee it'll be the injector seals, possibly the pump, but my money's on the seals  :y

Fit a priming bulb with non return valve to the diesel pipe work as the VP44 pump is a lift pump free self priming injector pump.

The issue they have is not the pump (its pretty much bullet proof), its the electronic module which controls the solenoids and contains the calibration info. This has a couple of 'glob n gloop' power transistors in it which are cooled by the incoming fuel, no fuel and they cook.

So when the pipes and seals get a bit tired and air gets in or when changing the fuel filter, you risk screwing the electronics.
