I'm getting a bearded dragon has anyone got experience or advice on keeping them?

My eldest daughter has had 1 now for over a year...against my better judgement. >:(

Best advise is get the biggest vivarium you can afford/fit as they seem to grow pretty quickly and it does need space to bask in the heat and also get into a cooler space, so shleved area a good plan.

They eat "live" food so be prepared for crickets and the likes escaping :o other than that they don,t do much but are quite fascinating

My grandaughter has a Gekko (called Jerry not Gordon), it,s hilarious when the crickets escape :D

What a coincidence, my wife is a bearded dragon.
My advice is dont upset it cause it will make a terrible noise, and try to have sex with it as infrequently as possible. :y

much as amba has said really, compared with waterdragons for example Beardies are quite straightforward to look after but dont skimp on having too small a viv to start with as you'll need "growing" room. Make sure there is a basking area and a cooler area too within the viv. Stay away from the heated rocks (as it has been known for them to burn themselves on them) and go for heatmats instead. Dont forget that the UV light will need changing at intervals too as they degrade over time. Make sure youve got a thermometer in the viv to keep an eye on the temp and that you use the correct substrate.Feeding should be straightforward but make sure youve got the right dietry mix so that you have crickets (protein)as well as grubs (fat) and reptivite drops in the water wont hurt. You can also dust the crickets themselves with supplements should you need to. Should be plenty advice/info available online (though-unhelpfully-you may find some contradictory!).They can become quite tame so enjoy :y
