« on: 03 August 2013, 12:42:47 »

Das Auto. BBC2 Sunday night 9pm,after TG. Traces the history of the German car industry.
It was made by Dominic Sandbrook, who wrote an interesting article on the subject in The Wail today.

Oh , what a thoroughly depressing programme . :'(
Dominic Sandbrook must be the worst presenter I have ever had to listen to .

Quite a lot of interesting stuff on the programme.

I went to the Opel factory (Russelheim?) 45 years ago. Very different from now. I always remember Rekords(I think they were) being driven off the production line with screaming engines and tyre smoke as they launched off the rolling road.  They were doing 50 within two seconds of having been started for the first time. After that I thought anyone running in their cars was wasting their time. My brother did that job for a while at a Volvo factory. It was the same there. You had to or you couldn't keep up.
