Sunday morning shocker
« on: 25 August 2013, 22:19:50 »

I was driving home from work this morning, not that awake, ambling along at a fairly sedate pace on a wet road a couple of miles from home.
I was approaching a right hand bend, which can be a nasty one for those who don't know the road as it goes on longer than it initially appears.
My peripheral vison alerted me to a car coming from the other direction. I could only see its roof above the roadside shrubbery, but I could see it was travelling at a hell of a speed. Next thing it appears at the apex of the corner and he runs out of talent completely.
I noticed it was a Golf GTi,just as it went completely sideways and starting sliding straight at me.
I could see the terror on his face nd his arms flailing cluelessly about as he tried in vain to collect it up,but it was way past that.
I half closed my eyes and said a quick goodbye to my soon to be dead Omega, and waited for the banging and crunching to start.
It didn't quite happen somehow. He missed me,I don't know how,and it must have been close, but he missed me.
I glanced in my mirror just before I entered the bend and noticed he was completely on the wrong side of the road and still weaving around all over the place. ::)
I knew there was another car not that far behind me so I slowed to see if that appeared behind me again. After a fair while it did,so presumably it had enough of a gap to be able to stop and allow the squiggly golf to sort itself out. ;D
I was 5 minutes way from bed and already almost settling into a nice sleep, then all of a sudden my heartbeat shot up to fack knows what, and my heart felt like it had moved up to somewhere near my mouth.
Not the ideal way to start a quiet Sunday really. ::) ;D

All rain recently after long dry spell, bet the road was very greasy. Still owning a Golf GTi i suspect he thought he could take any bend, at any speed he wanted.  ::)

The roads are greasy.Ive had a few medium speed oversteery moments this weekend. This was just silly though.I know the road well and could see by his approaching speed that he would be a better man than me if he was going to get round the bend without a drama.
I suspect he learned a lesson this morning, and will be having his drivers seat steam cleaned shortly. ;D

Lucky he didn't hit you then :o

He's probably on the golf forum saying "I was on my way home when an omega appeared on my side of the road" ;D ;D

Should have stopped and asked him what tyres he had  :D :D :D

Not very good ones by the sound of it ;D

I would imagine he got near to the apex, bottled it,lifted off, then stamped on the brakes. Its the only method I know to get a wwd car completely sideways.

I nearly came a cropper last night on my way home from work in the dry. I'd passed the RR Sport in front of me that had managed to achieve a heady 37/38 mph in the National Speed Limit, got to a double bend at around 55mph and was then faced with two cars half & half cross the white line because some dosey twonk had pulled over just before a bend to make a f*in phone call!!!!!!!!!  >:( >:( >:(
I'm not quite sure how a missed either/both of them!

ABS works though!  ::) ::)

I think the roads are catching people out at the moment, myself included  :-[ - I was blatting up the motorway yesterday, following a downpour, and going around a curve, the TC light started going. I hadn't felt the car start to move, but it was clear that the TC had started to detect slip on one wheel.

Certainly a heartstopper for a few seconds, and a warning that it was a lot more slippery than it looked  :-[
