How short-sighted can this government be?

Looks like the diesel generator I've just stripped and rebuilt could be run in before I expected.

Diesel... £1.30/litre. break! :-[

Maybe time to convert it to steam Kevin.

Actually, that's a pretty good idea. It even sounds like progress.  :-/

Actually, the government want to build new nuclear.  It’s the nut munchers and tree huggers that are opposed to new nuclear build.

In the CEGB days, spare capacity and spinning reserve was the focus.  These days, it’s financially driven.

Its probably already too late even if they start to build new nuclear now.

Yep, bring back coal, there is loads of it, problem is, as I understand it you cant reopen the old mines, so we need new ones, you can even get gas and oil from it. Do it before there is no one left with the knowledge of how to run / mine mines. :)
Whatever muck we do or do not produce we are a tiny little island and whilst the big countries are spewing out muck we think we will have a benefical effect. :(

Heard them on the radio today. ;D They ask what their preferred solution is - buy solar panels, wind turbines, etc. don't leave your mobile phone / electric toothbrush on charge longer then you need to, and buy some insulation. Yeah, right. Do they understand the difference between milliwatts and megawatts?

.. and what does Gordon think he's doing announcing nuclear as the solution to our (urgent) problems? Any new capacity is decades away, if we can convince the French to come and built it for us - it's not as if we have any expertise any more. >:(
