Tis the first of the month on Sunday and my mig is sorned, when can I tax it.?  If I could tax it tomorrow then obviously I would not drive it till Sunday.
Can I tax it on line?

i believe you can apply for tax up to 15 days before the end of the month, online and in a post office

I have had my miggy "sorned recently while lots of work was done to it.

I am sure that you cannot tax a sorned vehicle before the 1st of the new month. If you attempt it they will start it from the 1st of the current month.  

Bit confused -- try this explanation - if you go to tax your sorned car tomorrow, Friday or Saturday - the disc will start from 1st MAY.

Appling up to 15 days in advance is only for currently taxed vehicles.

Go on Monday and it will start from 1st June.

Saying you won't use the car until Monday does not even come into it as far as DVLA are concerned.

Can't comment on online taxing though.

If your tax is due to run out at the end of the month, you can renew it from the 15th day of the month.

If your vehicle has been untaxed, because you’ve just bought it, the tax disc has run out or a SORN is in force, you can tax from the first day of the month in which you apply.

If you want the tax disc to start on the first day of the next calendar month, you cannot tax your vehicle more than two days in advance.

so the 1st of the month  ...

unsure... if the car is already taxed to expire at the end of this month then obviously your new disc starts next month as it will naturally follow on

but like in your case, If the car's sorned and you tax before the end of a month, i think it gets backdated to the beginning of the month, IE if you attempt to tax tomorrow you'll lose practically a full month

anyone confirm or correct??

Car needs a test drive, good job I live where I live, might just take a chance for a run around the block and tax it on monday. need to check the brakes and arrange an MOT. it is tested.

Tax runs from the first day of the month in which it is taxed.

Tax it on the first, tax starts on the first.

tax it on the 30th/31st, tax still starts on the first - of that month, not the month starting the following day......

When I registered and first taxed the kit car it was a couple of days before the end of month and I had the option of starting it on the first of the following month. Might be sifferent for SORN, since if you are declaring that it's now on the road I guess having it untaxed for a few days is not on.

OK - I just bought a car which had a tax disc which ran until April 2009, but the seller is going to reclaim the money, as I didn't want to pay for nearly a year's tax.  (It's a first car for the youngest lad - it won't last three months un-crashed, let alone a year.)

So, DVLA online think it's taxed ('cos the seller hasn't sent the disc back yet) so I can't tax it that way.  It's not SORNed yet - I was going to do that today.  I was then going to go to the post office and tax it for the next month on Saturday (only day I can get there easily).  

This thread tells me I can't do that.  Any suggestions?
