Auto Box Lever Gaiter
« on: 19 November 2013, 17:15:23 »

Is there a simple way of replacing the leather gaiter on an autoshift,as all available seem to assume the black shift lever removes

Bought both hand brake and auto shift few months ago as both had signs of wear and splits but only just got around to thinking about replacing them as they have been at the bottom of my parts bin
Hand brake is straight forward as will slide off lever once cable tie cut and refitting is just the reverse
Auto shift is a different matter as assume black shift top doesn't remove and hole in gaiter is far too small to go over
Wondered if entire lever needed to be removed but that seems crazy as needs to be drilled off gearbox so I have read
Must be a simpler way for us mortals

You need to carefully umpick some of the stitching t the top of the gaiter to allow it to go over the gearknob. Then restitch it when its in position.

Thanks for that Albs  :y

Seems silly why these retrofit parts places that do replacement gaiters don,t leave the top part partially stitched so it can be unpicked as you suggest.

You really need to be multi-skilled to own an Omega  :o...now we need sewing lessons ;D

Use a curved needle. Which is also what you use to sort the steering wheel stitching.
