Front Suspension Spring Snapped
« on: 02 December 2013, 12:04:13 »

As per title, time to get the spanners out as the drivers side front suspension leg spring has snapped.  :'( :'(

Can't find any useful info for front springs or front shocks on TC website. Obviously I will replace both sides but I'm debating whether to change both front shocks as well. Might as well replace the deteriorating rear wishbone bushes while it's apart if I've got to book it in at WIM anyway. I'll have a look at the camber guide before I start ripping it apart.  :y

Car is a 52 plate 3.2 elite with 74K on the clock. I can't find a guide for this but I have plenty of Plus Gas and plenty of tools so I'll make it up as I go along.  ;D

Any advice welcome as always.  :y

Might as well do the top mounts as well :y they have to come off to liberate the spring...

Have a chat with Lozz or Biggriffin, both have/are breaking ex plod cars... The springs are elite length but a damn site stronger :y

Personal preference there would be mv6 lowered sports chassis front springs. Might not be your cup of tea though?

Plus they ain't cheap, and they have to get them from Ze Germans. B4 shocks or gm lsc might be cheaper in tc.

Depends what you want from the car really?

Camber guide is purely a way of measuring the gap between rim and shock. Changing the shock may give different results. Although there's always the spirit level method.

I've ordered a pair of Sachs/Boge springs and will probably get SKF top mounts to be going on with. The car does under 4K a year so it's not overly important to have superior handling, more a case of being roadworthy.  :y
The last two MOT's have picked up advisaries for 'deteriorating rear wishbone bush but no excessive movement' so I hope to re-bush them now while it's apart.  :y

Oh yeh, couldn't find anything useful on TC regarding new bits.  :-\

Will the B4's be ok with the standard replacement springs that I've ordered.  :-\  The last price I got off AndyC for shocks on Trade Club was cheaper than most after market alternative replacements but I can't see them on TC now.  :'(

B4 will be fine.

Tc web site is rubbish. Bell the dealer IMO.

Cheers Chris.  :y
I had already called our nearest TC approved dealer and ordered like for like replacements when I read this.  :y
I then received an e-mail from motorsportworld saying that they had 10% off Bilstein shocks. B4's would have been a couple of quid cheaper than TC, plus the postage, but hey ho it's done now. I hate waiting for parts to arrive, I just want to get on with it.

Did I mention that I hate waiting for parts to arrive.  :'(
