Leaking air con?
« on: 12 December 2013, 09:47:44 »

Just happened to look under my car the other day only to see if everything is ok. Was not. Should not have looked there. Aircon pump had a few drops of green stuff on it. It's not coolant as coolant is red, not PAS fluid as it is red/brown/black, nor engine oil. It can not be refrigerant, can it? How to find out where it is coming from as sight and access are quite limited? Is the refridgerant green?

Were you using your A/C? The receiver-dryer gets rid of fluid that was previously gas and its perfectly normal for this to drip out as the receiver-dryer gets saturated

That is usually pure water condensed out of the air by the air con :y See air conditioning 101 for details as to how that happens...

KCL, your a/c compressor has sprung a leak. Common enough to be considered normal. Shackeng recently refurbished his with new seals :y

Not quite true, I replaced the compressor with a re-con one - and condenser while I was at it. If you decide to do so, there is a good 'How to'. However I removed the compressor before disconnecting the feed pipes from it, which I found very simple. :y

So, these things leak commonly and I assume I'll not be having any cold out from A/C next summer? Well, it is time to source a used compressor and "re-furb" it. Are the compressors the same thru the range?
