Ayone remember toilets that needed to be emptied?
« on: 18 February 2014, 14:01:14 »

Been talking about this today and the latest we can think of was 1962 in old houses in a village near Leicester.

Must have been a crap job emptying the containers. In Sharnford in the 30's the postman emptied them ona Wednesday very early morning and took by horse and cart to a local field!

I know in those "good old days" there were the "Night Soil" people who took off all the human and other waste from local areas to the farmers who greatly valued the stuff.

The age of the flushing toilets also flushed their livelihoods away! :D :D :D ;)

We are old school up here and have grannys old chanty under the bed ;D  always a problem trying to remember whether it is full or empty when you need it in the middle of the night :y :y

I do believe that some of our members (the type that have shoes without holes in them) may know it as a chamber pot rather than a chanty ;D ;D
