This is the guide for the diff seal. All jobs are easy if you know what you're doing  ;) ;) You must make sure every thing is marked prior to slackening off the bearing so it can go back exactly as it was before to ensure the correct pre-load on the bearing/pinion/crownwheel

Is it best to buy the seal from Vauxhall or will any make of seal for my car do?

I had mine replaced on old Elite by Daz whilst doing an autobox swop.

Part was genuine GM and think from memory around £35.Was made easier by somebody who knew what they were doing and also having the car in the air at good working height as you do need to mark all parts before any dismantling to be sure it all goes back as before.

We not only counted the full revolutions of the nut but also the number of flats on the nut it passed a fixed point to double check.Again from memory think nut was around 13 full turns to be removed from its original postion,also make sure you have the new seal well soaked in oil on refitting

The key bit to wipe with oil is the running face of the seal.

Never tried a pattern item so cant comment, I note they are available here but no idea as to the manufacturer:
