chip and pin terminals
« on: 13 April 2014, 13:03:50 »

Hi
I am considering getting myself a chip and pin terminal to enable me to take card payments from customers on site.
I saw one in screwfix which made me look in the first place however reviews are not brilliant and money comes via a euro bank so takes a while.
I have discovered that there are a few about ,PayPal do one and another called zinc I think, all about the same charges etc some payg some fixed tarrif.
Anyone use one or have any views on which to use or avoid?
Cheers.

Used to use a Verifone Cardnet terminal, leased through Lloyds. That worked out about £70 per month plus 1.5% for all credit card transactions.

Now use PayPal/PayPal here, which is a bit clunky, but seems to work well enough... cost is free, but they take 3.4%... the chip and pin reader is a one off £99. Relies on phone signal, so can be limited in that respect. But does also do invoicing/email receipts too.

Cardnet make you jump through all the PCSS hoops, whereas PayPal do it behind the scenes for you. Makes sense really as all they do is process money.

HTH.

Thanks for your input Al
I am looking at the worldpay zinc machine at the moment
Payg and 2.75%
£5.99 per month and 1.95%
direct to your account within four working days!!
Why can you not get instant processing?
I may just stick to getting people to bacs the funds and then its in my account straight away, but i do have to keep my eye on it all!
Handy to have the option though.
Oh and reader is £59.99

PayPal is instant into Paypal account, and can be transferred FOC there and then...

Only catch is if you don't have a chip and pin reader, they will sit on transactions over £199 in any month for 30 days :-\

My guess is that this is part and parcel of their PCSS compliance :-\
