Not Bad At All...
« on: 06 April 2014, 22:56:38 »

Pretty happy with these MPG figures, This was today mainly on A & B roads, Outside temperature around 11oC, A/C was also on, No Motorways or Dual Carriageways.. Not driving like miss daisy either  :)... Did put some Forte in it few weeks back, Wonder if that has anything to do with it...  :-\

Past few months it's been hovering around 22mpg-27mpg... 29.2mpg best so far this year :y

On a run they aint too bad the 3.2's, given their size though I feel they should be better.

I managed this...

Nice range  8)

My 3.0l estate reported an average of 28mpg for the 1700miles I did in France a month ago. 1300 of those were at  'motorway' speed, and the rest on country roads. Car was mostly loaded with a bootfull of stuff, 3 people and my bike on the towbar.

I reckon that's pretty good; the 1800 Legnum I had previously did the same, but struggled with the speeds.

I would expect those sort of MPGs from an auto 3.2 at reasonably constant motorway speeds.  If this is on country roads, or more stop-start, I'd use the brim-brim method, or at least check the config of the computer.  Unless you're very light footed.

I wouldn't say light footed or heavy footed, Normaly building up speed with the occasional burst.

This was on Shell standard petrol, The Air Filter was changed last week but the one it replaced didn't look dirty (10months old filter) ... doubt that would make this much of a difference, Unless it's the combination of the filter, shell and forte..

Can't say I've ever seen a range figure like that Tunnie on any Omega :o :y

Have you done a brim to brim test? Or checked computer config?

As you say, unless the old filters were shagged, or really cheap shite, the filters won't make that level of difference. Nor would additives or branded fuel.

I've seen tunnie's range from a 3.0l auto, and obviously the 2.5 Goldie I had. Saw 800m range on the TD once as well, not that I got 800m from the tank ;D

Not done a brim to brim normally fill up 50%-75%, I wouldn't know how to check the computer configuration. Tech2 required or ?

These readings where taken after the battery had been disconnected roughly 24H when I was preparing to take the instrument panel out... I'd presume that would have wiped any previous data.

I wouldn't know how to check the computer configuration
Looks like a GID, so from memory, I think its:

Press and hold MAIN for 6s, then release
Press BC (if you don't get a load of numbers, press MAIN briefly)

Post up a pic

To exit this diag mode, press and hold MAIN for 6s again, then press MAIN again briefly

Config for 3.2 auto with HIDs

??? Not sure what you mean to be honest  :-\

It is a 3.2 auto with HIDs, Engine/Lights where off when this was taken.

The GID, thus Fuel Computer, is configured for a 3.2 auto with HIDs. So correct. So the MPG is good, assuming accurate (only testable brim to brim method)

This makes me kind of happy I have the 2.2 16v ... my house to meadow farm pub at sheffield and then home again
Total of 39.6 miles and most of that motorway stretch is 50 mph (junction 30 m1 to junction 35 m1) >:( on the way back a 40 mph restriction as workmen were wandering around with cones ... this returned me 38.7mpg and that was with moderately light foot! getting around 26 mpg round and about town atm if I'm very careful with the right foot and 20 - 22 mpg average if I feel like taking part in the traffic light grand prix  :-X
